Sun Burn
Every year the first time I am out in the sun for an extended amount of time I burn. Yesterday was no exception. I went with my mom and dad to Dog Alley in Minnesota to try to sell some Yorkie pups. I forgot my sunscreen not that it ever helps much. I love the sun but I don’t love being out in the sun for long. I have rather fair skin and it burns quite fast. Here are a couple pictures of my arms.
I wouldn’t dare show you my face which means I may hide in the house for a couple days. I had on my big sunglasses and now look like a racoon which gives my dad a huge laugh.
Fridge Update
I am pleased that my time spent researching why my fridge may have been leaking yesterday was a success. The fridge no longer leaks. As an added bonus my freezer is also quite clean and organized now. Google search is a wonderful thing. Don’t be afraid to be frugal and google a solution to a pesky problem. I am sure a call to the appliance repairman would have cost me at least $100 but google was absolutely free!
My Fridge Is Leaking
Today I became fed up with my leaking fridge and decided to find the solution. I have this on and off drip coming from the freezer into the fridge. The bottom of my egg cartons were wet today and that was the end of my patience. Off and hunting the internet I went. I found several websites talking about the drain in the freezer that runs to the drip tray under the fridge being frozen. I unsecured the tray at the bottom of the freezer and sure enough I had a sheet of 1/4″ thick ice covering the entire bottom of the freezer. The drain is a tube which is frozen solid with ice as well. I removed the sheet of ice but in order to thaw the tube the fridge needs to be turned off over night. Tomorrow I will update you on the progress of thawing the drain.
Menu Plan Monday
Due to the holiday this is a day late and will be short this week.
- Fried Rice with Ham
- Tacos
- Tuna Noodles
- Chef Salads
- Subs
Eggs!
- I do bake quite a bit on and off and this will give me the chance to make some baked goods to freeze.
- I also have 3 teen/preteen boys who love eggs for breakfast. Two eggs per person in our family is 10 eggs or almost a dozen. If I scramble them I will just do the two extra and freeze a breakfast burrito for my hubby.
- Quiche and egg bake make a filling meal and leftovers are easily reheated.
- Egg salad sandwiches make for an easy lunch.
- Boiled eggs that are chilled are good snacks and great salad toppers.
- If all else fails you can freeze eggs by cracking one into each cube of an ice cube tray. They will not be good for frying but you can use them in baked goods.
I hope that maybe I have given you some good frugal ideas to use and abundance of eggs. If you have others please leave a comment!
Grocery Shopping 5/19
I headed to town tonight primarily to get to Fareway before eggs went off sale but I did get a few other deals while I was out. I didn’t grocery shop last week so I do have $100 to spend this week but I didn’t even come close tonight. Here are my deals…

Tulip Festival
Orange City, Iowa has a Tulip Festival every May. I took the boys to the parade and a concert by Remedy Drive. We had to sit and wait awhile for the parade to start since we wanted good seats.

After the parade we walked around and looked at some of the pretty tulips. The 5th & 6th graders in Orange City plant 1000’s of bulbs every October as a community service project each year. I am sure there hard work is appreciated by many people who come to visit the Dutch college town. Here you can see a few tulips in the background.
After running an errand for a friend we returned back to the park for the free Remedy Drive concert. It was fun while we stayed but it was really windy and cold so we left a bit early.
It was great music. They are topping the Christian charts and thanks to some generous donors the entire concert was free. If you would like to hear some music by Remedy Drive you can download a free track for your MP3 player here.
Routine To Me
I was cleaning today and doing some laundry when one of the boys asked why I was putting the sheets in a pillowcase. I thought I would share my storage system for bed linens.
First I fold the flat, fitted sheets and the second pillowcase if there is one. Then I store them in the other pillowcase by neatly using the pillowcase as a sack and folding the extra length over like a flap. When the sheets are folded I have a tube for each bed size, appropriately labeled, which I store the sheet sets in.
The best part of this is when I strip the bed to change sheets. At that time all I have to do is grab a pillowcase and I know I have a full set of clean sheets.
